Today was one of those bitter sweet days. A day where the sweet, good, ironic, and funny things were in-your-face juxtaposed with the seemingly cruel and unnatural courses life can take. In this case the course was death.
The death of a young mother of three boys. Cancer. The eldest of the boys lovingly placed a big red heart he had drawn on his mother’s chest and turned to his gramma to tell her he thought he saw his mother smile. Later, at the cemetary as the kind and respectful crew prepared to lower her casket into the vault, his younger brother asked the lady holding him “Is mommy gonna come out of the box now?”
It was impressive how the children were allowed to participate and be kids. One of the ways was to allow them all to write or draw something on the vault before it was lowered into the grave. These are just two of the photos.
